Weekly Sermon

God Only Knows
sowerandseed In the Gospel of Mark, the first parable that Jesus tells is the familiar “Parable of the Sower”. Later, when he is alone, his followers ask him about parables, those stories with meaning beyond the literal. And so, he explains to them the parable they’ve just heard. And you know that interpretation: the seed is the word falling on different types of soil that re either barren in some way or fruitful. The kind of soil is critical, and the take away of the story is that we should be good soil, open to the seed of God’s holy word.

The reading for today, five verses later, focuses on the seed that falls on good soil, the ones who “hear the word and accept it and bear fruit, thirty and sixty and a hundredfold.”

khenryA VACANT PULPIT…

Rev. Kathryn Henry will retire from active ministry as pastor of Peapack Reformed Church as of August 1, 2018. Her last service will be Sunday, July 1. A 9-member pastoral search team has been working since January to prepare a Church Profile that is now posted on the RCA website. For more about that go to www.rca.org and click on the Job Opportunities tab. Here is a taste of the profile:

Peapack Reformed Church is a congregation called by God, inspired and empowered by the Holy Spirit, and committed to being the very presence of Jesus Christ in the world. We are a small congregation with an inclusive embrace for all who seek to know, to love and to follow Christ; with an eye toward growth; with a desire to build strong missions to care for those in need; and with a vision of outreach to the community. The Peapack Reformed Church strives to be a welcoming, open-minded, community oriented congregation. Our charge is to carry out the work which Christ began, with inspiration through the power and presence of the Holy Spirit.
We are outwardly focused as is shown in our diverse local and global Mission efforts that include feeding the hungry, providing for the homeless, supporting victims of natural disasters and empowering those in need to find new life in Christ Jesus.

Our vision is to grow our congregation and thrive in an environment of ever-competing demands for time and attention. We seek to fulfill the spiritual needs of individuals, families and youth, providing Christian education, prayer, and lifetime support for spiritual growth. We seek to glorify Christ in all that we do.
