Thought for Worship: IN THE EYES OF: Mary Magdalene (Matthew 28:1-10)
Imagine you are Mary Magdalene. You saw the lifeless body of Jesus and watched Joseph of Arimathea take it away. But now you have arrived at the tomb, and the stone is rolled away from the entrance. Someone is telling you that Jesus is alive. You stumble away in shock. What do you see? hear? feel? What are you thinking?

Call to Worship
Votum
Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth.
Amen
Opening Sentences
The Lord be with you.
And also with you!
Alleluia! Christ is risen!
Christ is risen indeed! Alleluia!
God has answered us!
God has come to earth to become our salvation!
This is the day the Lord has made:
let us rejoice and be glad! Alleluia!
Salutation
Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ
Amen.
Prayer of the Day
Hallelujah, loving God!
We have been transformed in an instant.
Your love resurrected Jesus,
defying sin’s grasp on us.
We claim the power of life over death,
delight over pain,
and freedom over oppression.
Jesus, empower us to go forth in your glory
so that we may bring your good news to all.
Let the words of our mouths
and the meditations of our hearts
create the change we wish to see. Amen.
*Hymn of Praise Jesus Christ Is Risen Today
Call to Confession
Let us approach God with our confessions,
trusting that even before we speak,
God knows us and loves us.
Prayer of Confession
O God, you raised Christ from the tomb
and shattered the powers of sin and evil.
Raise us from the tombs of our sin, O Lord,
and bring us to new life in you.
You bring us good news of Easter joy.
Forgive us when we cannot hear it.
You send us out to share your love.
Forgive us when we cannot carry it.
You cast a vision for peace and justice.
Forgive us when we cannot imagine it.
Forgive us when we stand in its way.
For you are the God of the empty tomb,
the one who makes all things new.
Assurance of Pardon
Hear the good news of God’s promise:
I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh.
Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord
will be saved. Acts 2:17, 21
In the name of Jesus Christ, we are forgiven!
Thanks be to God.
The Law of God:

All: And also with you!

Silent Reflection
THE RESPONSE TO GOD
*Affirmation of Faith
We believe in one God,
the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made,
of one being with the Father;
through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation
he came down from heaven:
was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary,
and became truly human.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again
in accordance with the Scriptures;
he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,
and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father [and the Son],
who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come. Amen.

All: We lift them up to the Lord.

All: It is right to give our thanks and praise.

your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is He who comes in the name of
the Lord. Hosanna in the highest!
Remembering the Work of Christ
One: Most righteous God, we remember in this Supper the perfect sacrifice offered once on the cross by our Lord Jesus Christ for the sin of the whole world. Together we proclaim the mystery of faith:
Memorial Acclamation
All: Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again.
Invocation of the Spirit
One: So send your Holy Spirit upon us we pray… Even so, come Lord Jesus we pray.
All: Amen
Holy Communion
Words of Institution and Invitation
One: The body of Christ is broken for you.
One: The blood of Christ is shed for you.
Prayer after Communion
Brothers and sisters,
since the Lord has now fed us at his Table,
let us praise God’s holy name with heartfelt thanksgiving!
Bless the Lord, O my soul,
and all that is within me, bless his holy name.
Bless the Lord, O my soul,
and do not forget all his benefits—
who forgives all your iniquity,
who heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the Pit,
who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy.
The Lord is merciful and gracious,
slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
He does not deal with us according to our sins,
nor repay us according to our iniquities.
For as the heavens are high above the earth,
so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him;
as far as the east is from the west,
so far does he remove our transgressions from us.
As a father has compassion for his children,
so the Lord has compassion for those who fear him,
who did not spare his own Son,
but gave him up for us all,
and will also give us all things with him.
Therefore shall my mouth and heart show forth the praise of the Lord,
from this time forth forevermore. Amen.
Prayer of Thanksgiving and Intercession (ending with the Lord’s Prayer)
Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy Kingdom come, Thy Will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the Kingdom, the Power, and the Glory forever. Amen.

Congregational Response
Christ is alive! Let Christians sing. The cross stands empty to the sky.
Let streets and homes with praises ring. Love drowned in death, shall never die.
Christ is alive, and comes to bring, Good news to this and every age,
Till earth and sky and ocean ring. With joy, with justice, love and praise.
