Sixth Sunday after Pentecost
June 30, 2024 | 10:00am
Rev. Jeremy Campbell, Temporary Pastor | Larry J. Carey, Director of Music
Thought for Worship: “We're here to be worshippers first and workers only second. We take a convert and immediately make a worker out of him. God never meant it to be so. God meant that a convert should learn to be a worshiper, and after that he can learn to be a worker... The work done by a worshiper will have eternity in it.” | A. W. Tozer
GATHERING
Welcome
Prelude Recitative and Aria | Wold
Call to Worship
Votum
Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth.
Amen
Opening Sentences
The steadfast love of God never ceases.
God’s mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning.
Great is your faithfulness, O God.
Weeping may linger for the night,
but joy comes with the morning, for you hear us when we cry.
So we will praise you and will not be silent.
Sing praises, O you faithful ones,
and give thanks to God’s holy name.
Salutation
Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ
Amen.
Prayer of the Day
Merciful God,
you listen to all our prayers—
cries of joy and cries for help,
shouts of frustration and speechless awe,
wordless weeping and lengthy lament.
Some of us wait decades for your response;
others sense it immediately.
May we come to know your presence,
even when you seem absent,
and seek your unexpected responses.
Embolden us to keep praying
through dismay and disappointment,
for the Holy Spirit speaks for us
when we are unable to pray. Amen.
*Hymn of Praise O for a Thousand Tongues to Sing
Call to Confession
When a poor person dies of hunger, it has not happened because God did not take care of him or her. It has happened because neither you nor I wanted to give that person what he or she needed. - Mother Teresa (1910–1997)
Prayer of Confession
Lord God, You came to give honor to the least,
those forgotten, overlooked and misjudged.
You came to give first place to the last,
those left behind, misunderstood and undervalued.
You came to give a warm welcome to the lost,
those who are orphaned, abandoned and destitute.
Help us to be your ears to listen to their cries.
Help us to be your voice speaking out love and acceptance.
Help us to be your feet walking beside those in need.
Help us to be your hands to clothe, feed and shelter them.
You came for the least, the lost and last of this world.
Lord, hear our prayer. Amen.
Assurance of Pardon
This is how God showed his love among us:
He sent his one and only Son into the world
that we might live through him.
This is love: not that we loved God,
but that he loved us and sent his
Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 1 John 4:9-10
Thanks be to God.
The Law of God:
*Gloria Patri | #579
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Amen.
*Commitment to Peace Keeping and Peace Seeking
One: May the peace of Christ be with you!
All: And also with you!
Share a sign of peace with one another. After sharing the peace, let us all sing together:
Together, by grace, we witness and work, remembering Jesus, in whom we grow strong. Together we serve in Spirit and truth, remembering love is the strength of our song.
THE WORD OF GOD
Prayer for Illumination
God, source of all light, by your Word, you give light to the soul. Pour out on us the spirit of wisdom and understanding, that our hearts and minds may be opened to know your truth and your way. Amen.

First Reading: Psalm 30
Keep these words in your heart.
The Lord is our God, the Lord alone.

Sermon: Giving is a Gift | Larry J. Carey
Silent Reflection
THE RESPONSE TO GOD
*Affirmation of Faith
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; He descended to hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended to heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From there He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Doxology
Praise God from whom all blessings flow;
Praise him all creatures here below;
Praise him above ye heavenly hosts;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
Amen!
Prayer of Dedication
Prayer of Thanksgiving and Intercession (ending with the Lord’s Prayer)
Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy Kingdom come, Thy Will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the Kingdom, the Power, and the Glory forever. Amen.

*Hymn The Church of Christ in Every Age
Benediction
Congregational Response
Christ is alive! Let Christians sing. The cross stands empty to the sky.
Let streets and homes with praises ring. Love drowned in death, shall never die.
Christ is alive, and comes to bring, Good news to this and every age,
Till earth and sky and ocean ring. With joy, with justice, love and praise.
